LIFEWELL CHURCH E-NEWSLETTER

Sept 2013 – Issue 129 - E-Issue 39

God saved you by his grace
when you believed. And you can*t take credit for this;
it is a gift from God.
Salvation is not a reward for the good things we have done,
so none of us can boast about it.
For we are God*s masterpiece.
He has created us anew in Christ Jesus,
so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago.

Ephesians 2:8-10 [NLT]

This year celebrates our 90th Birthday!
We're going to celebrate it this October.

In 1923 the church started out as Mission Church.  When the new building opened in 1954 it became known as Pentremalwed Church.  Over the years God has brought our church through some great times and some challenging times and many lives have been touched through the ministry of Pentremalwed Church.

Pastor Lloyd used to say "hats off to the past and coats off to the future!"  We celebrate all that our history speaks of but we have a future and a destiny to take hold of!

I believe God has given me John 4:1-42 as a picture of our church on into the future.

Jesus meets a woman at the well and it changes her life!  There's teaching and worship and prayer (talking to Jesus) There's talk of his return and then evangelism as she takes the good news into her town... It's church.

I believe our church is to be like a well where people meet with Jesus have their lives changed and... it bubbles over into eternal life!!!
I'm excited about it. We as a leadership are excited about it and we're asking you to pray about it.  To bring it all together and make the statement clear in a prophetic stance, we are proposing that we take on the name
LIFEWELL CHURCH.

A well where people find new and eternal life in Jesus.  I've already spoken to many of you and the response has been overwhelmingly positive.  Think about it pray about it!

Talk to me about it and as part of our services on Sunday 22nd Sept 2013, we will decide if our future is to be fulfilled through our church (You and me) taking on the vision and name of
LIFEWELL CHURCH?

Jesus & the rich young man (part 2) -  Matt 19:16-30.
And everyone who has left houses or brothers or sisters or father or mother
or wife or children or fields for my sake will receive a hundred times as much and will inherit eternal life.
But many who are first will be last, and many who are last will be first.
Matthew 20:14.  [NIV]

Last month we looked at the story of the rich young ruler asking how to have eternal life, but not being willing to pay the price. Straight after that story, Peter pipes up "we've left everything to follow you".  Jesus replies "Truly I tell you, at the renewal of all things, when the Son of Man sits on his glorious throne, you who have followed me will also sit on twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel..." There was going to be a reward!  Jesus continues... "...And everyone who has left houses or brothers or sisters or father or mother or wife or children or fields for my sake will receive a hundred times as much and will inherit eternal life..."  There's a reward for EVERYONE who leaves anything for Christ! A hundred times as much and eternal life.  The cost doesn't compare to the reward.  But I don't  know if Jesus saw what was going through some hearers heads but he then says  "But many who are first will be last, and many who are last will be first. "  Before you make it a competition of who's to expect the greatest reward...  HE'S WORTH IT!!!        (...To be continued)

The Leprosy Mission is an international Christian charity with almost 140 years of experience. Through The Leprosy Mission*s global family they serve a population of 305 million people in around 30 leprosy-affected countries.

As you're probably aware, Leprosy is an infectious disease which attacks the nerves. If treated early, there is less likelihood of long term damage but if treatment is delayed, the person may develop permanent nerve damage and disability. So many people with leprosy experience injustice throughout their lives. Intense discrimination and the ignorance of others can affect a person's family life, livelihood and place in their local community. The Leprosy Mission aims to demonstrate the Love of Christ by working to eradicate the causes and consequences of the disease.

If you would like to give to Missions just place your Missions gift in an envelope marked Missions and drop it in collection any time along with your Tithes and Offerings. Each month, you can read a little more about Christian Mission organisations and what they do!

PLEASE PRAY...
1. For the desperate situation in Juba and Malek, South Sudan and for people affected by leprosy who have been displaced and have no basic facilities * food, water or sanitation.
2. For The Leprosy Mission in Ethiopia to get permission to work soon. It is a country of high leprosy needs, with over 4,000 new cases diagnosed every year and more than 5,000 people living with permanent leprosy related disability and poor socio-economic status.
3. On International Literacy Day (8th September), pray for all those who do not have the opportunity to go to school, particularly the leprosy-affected who are often marginalised because of leprosy. Pray that governments and authorities will recognise the advantages of education, particularly for children as a way of escaping poverty.
