Let us
hold unswervingly to the
hope
we profess, for he
who promised
is faithful.

Hebrews 10:23 [NIV]

Jesus warns the religious leaders - Matthew 23:1-36

**The teachers of religious law and the Pharisees are the official interpreters of the Scriptures.
So practice and obey whatever they say to you, but don*t  follow their example. For they don*t practice what they teach.
Matthew 23:2-3.  [NIV]

We have all heard the saying 'do as I say and not as I do!' and would straight away recognise the hypocrisy of it.  How can we expect people to do what we ask if we don't practice what we preach. We all recognise that children copy  what their parents do and whether consciously or not we often learn by watching others.  Time and time again Jesus highights the hypocrisy of the leaders of his time.  Whatever people do around us, we must practice what we preach!  When we put God's word into practice, It leads to life!  We must do what it says no matter what others choose to do! We must do what is right because it is the right thing to do whether it costs us or not!  Even if it looks like others are getting away with doing less or if people seem to be gaining from turning a blind eye or letting themselves off!  It's called integrity! Doing the right thing even when no-ones looking!  But off course God sees! And He honours those who honour Him and His word!!!

At the start of this year we want God*s blessing on our lives. The Jews are God*s covenanted people. In Gen.12:3 God says that He will bless those who will bless them and curse those who curse them. In the world today we see anti-Semitism increasing. 49:22 Trust is a Christian organisation (based on Isaiah 49:22) which exists to serve & bless the Jewish people. *Aliyah* is a Hebrew word which means *to ascend* and refers to the return of Jewish people to the land of Israel and to the God of Israel. This is at the heart of 49:22 Trust*s mission to bring the Jews back from the nations and particularly from the former Soviet Union.

PLEASE PRAY FOR  :-
1.   That God will bless 49:22 Trust in their desire to obey God*s command to bring God*s people back from the nations.
2. For peace for the state of Israel (see Psalm 122 v 6 & 7) and that God will protect all of its people from those who would like to see it destroyed.
3. For wisdom and guidance for Benjamin Netanyahu and his government in their words and responses.
4. Lord we thank you that you are the light of the world and pray that you will reveal your light to many, both Jews and Gentiles, and bring them into your kingdom.
