"...if the Spirit
of him who raised Jesus from the dead
is living in you, he who raised Christ from the
dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through
his Spirit,
who lives in you."
Rom
8:11 [NIV]
Don't just believe
it,
LIVE LIKE
IT!
We may struggle to put all the pieces
together when trying to understand who the Holy Spirit is? What He does? and how
do we get filled with the Holy Spirit?
But when we consider just some of the
passages that help us understand something of who the Holy Spirit is and what He
does, we have got to be led to push through!
We may have lots of questions
but
we need all that God has for us! More than
that, we should want all that God has for us. Let's not just
survive!
I believe God wants us to
thrive!
Let us seek out an understanding and more
importantly an experience of the abiding presence of God through His Holy Spirit
so that we may know Him helping, comforting and strengthening us! So lets dig
into God's word and presence so we can live in all that God has for us! and may
our hearts cry out "Holy Spirit come!"
The Bible

Jesus warns the religious
leaders - part 6 - Matthew 23:1-36
*Blind guides! How
terrible it will be for you! For you say that it means nothing to swear *by
God*s Temple**you can break that oath. But then you say that it is binding to
swear *by the gold in the Temple.*
Matthew 23:16.
[NIV]
As we read these few verses
it's probably quite a strange concept to us. I guess the closest I've come
across is the idea of swearing on someone's life, which I guess is worse
than swearing on objects. But, I guess the thought behind it is the same and
that it makes a promise more trustworthy.
But it doesn't!
What makes a promise
trustworthy is the person who makes the promise resolve to fulfill the promise.
In fact in Matthew 5:33-37, we read that we should not swear by anything ... but
that yes must mean yes and our no, no!
We are to keep every promise
that we make!
There may be times when we
are physically unable to keep to what we have promised and there then needs to
be an apology and a making of mends.
As we said last month
integrity is to be at the top of our agenda.
Let's be a people who make
good on our promises and are trustworthy!
- Questions to consider -
What promises have you made
to God and others that you've let slip or need to make good?
Will you from this day on
strive to be a person who keeps their promises and doesn't make promises you
don't intend to keep?
The inspiration for the above title stems
from the character of Barnabas in Acts chapter 4. He was known for his
compassion and encouragement. Barnabas Fund aims to meet the needs of the
persecuted Church and raise awareness of their suffering in the
West.
PLEASE PRAY FOR :-
1. Lord Jesus as we
remember the gift of the Holy Spirit at Pentecost, we pray for Christians in
Iran who face constant harassment and questioning in
prison.
2. We pray for Christian sisters and
children who have been captured by Islamic State militants and sold as slaves
around the Middle East.
3. We pray for our brothers and sisters
in North Korean prisons where they could easily die under the harsh regime and
torture which they get as Christians.
4. Many Eritrean Christians are held in
prison for years without trial and in the harshest of conditions. But praise God
the number is much lower than it used to be. According to *Church in Chains*
there are now about 300 Christian prisoners, many of them held in Me*etr prison
in the remote north-west. Pray for these brothers and sisters, whom the Lord
knows by name, that He will sustain and comfort them.
If you would like to give to Missions just place your Missions gift
in an envelope marked Missions and drop it in collection any time along with
your Tithes and Offerings. Each month, you can read a little more about
Christian Mission organisations and what they do!
