"generations come and generations go,

but the earth remains forever"

Ecclesiastes 1:4 [NIV]

August is a time where everyone is happy, going on holidays or enjoying the sun. The summer is a time we associate with happiness. What I want to get people thinking about this month is the hard times that people may be facing behind closed doors. It is sometimes very hard to see what people are feeling as they may be good at hiding it. However, something that is very important is letting people know that you are there if they need to talk or if they need anything else. Something that I am passionate about is youth and the generation of tomorrow. Online, in real life or from friends we hear and see a lot of stories of youth going though a hard time, getting in trouble or just having difficulties. We as LifeWell have a youth group every Friday where we meet, explore the Bible and have fun together. Youth can know leaders that can help and that are there when they need to talk. So we have our youth covered… what about the youth of Morriston, Swansea, Wales? Something I think that is important is showing youth that we are a church of all ages and everyone is welcome. We don’t know what is going on in their lives but we are a place where they can come and feel safe, and get prayer if they need it. I think that church is a place that everyone should feel welcome and we are the ones to show them that is the case. So would you pray with me for the youth of Swansea and stand with me as a light in their lives and show them church is a place for everyone. Be a minister in your work places, schools and even at home.

How else can people find out about God?

Jesus in Gethsemane - Matt 26:36-46

“Couldn’t you stay awake and watch with me even one hour?
Keep alert and pray. Otherwise temptation will overpower you.
For though the spirit is willing enough, the body is weak!”

Matt 26:40-41[NLT]

We can very easily read this passage, seeing the urgency of what comes next for Jesus and point the finger at the disciples.
It would seem that the disciples need for sleep trumped their need to pray. I wonder how often our natural needs trump our need to pray?
We love hearing testimonies of answered prayers. Yet, if we are honest how many of us pray as much as we think we should?
Would you open your heart to a challenge from this passage.
We may not be able to perceive the urgent need for prayer for what is ahead and our natural needs may take our focus.
Would you watch and pray with Jesus in the challenges that you face and the ones that you are not aware of yet but are coming your way.
Would you respond to God’s call to watch and pray with him for an hour? Try it and see what God does?
You may think 10 minutes prayer is hard enough… well see the urgency and consider the fact that if Jesus was looking for prayer to get him through, we will do well to trust the same!

The name Barnabas which means “Son of Comfort” was the name of a Christian believer in the Book of Acts who willingly sold a field he owned and made an offering of the proceeds to the apostles. Barnabas Fund seeks to act on behalf of the persecuted Church  to make their needs known to Christians around the world and the injustice of their persecution known to governments and international bodies. It also aims to encourage and strengthen the local Church and Christian communities.

REMEMBER TO PRAY FOR OUR BROTHERS AND SISTERS AROUND THE WORLD

Please Pray…

1.       Pray for Barnabas Fund to continue to receive enough money and have the human resources to continue its very essential work.

2.       Pray for all those affected by the suicide bombing in Gulshan-e-Iqbal Park, Lahore, Pakistan on Easter Sunday.

3.       Pray for Christian school children in Pakistan who face much hostility in government schools.

4.       Dear Lord Jesus, have mercy on Syria. Bring an end to the destructive war and to the oppressive rule of Islamic State in the territory it controls.

If you would like to give to Missions just put your Missions gift in an envelope marked Missions and drop it in collection any time along with your offerings. Each month, you can read a little more about Christian Mission organisations and what they do.
